Artist Statement
I paint the structures and spaces that endure from America’s industrial past—environments shaped by generations of human endeavor. My work considers the history embedded in factories, roadside architecture, and industrial infrastructure. Through bold color, crisp geometry, and simplified forms, my paintings transform familiar structures into contemplative compositions that explore the relationship between structure, atmosphere, and mood. Each painting begins with a photograph, selected from an extensive archive gathered through walking and visual study. I refine these images digitally, adjusting composition and spatial relationships to create a sense of tension and clarity. My visual approach is graphic and deliberate: sharp forms, heightened color, and strong contrast. I work methodically, building thin layers of acrylic paint to achieve a smooth, controlled surface. Through this process I aim to invite a reconsideration of environments that might otherwise go unnoticed.
